Water rebates
Save on water while you redo the bathroom.
When the bathroom is already open for a new shower or tub, it is the easiest time to swap an old toilet too. Southern California water agencies pay rebates for premium high-efficiency toilets. Amounts below are as of 10/22/2026, from each agency's own site.
Add a toilet swap to your shower or tub job
- Same visit, same open bathroom. We swap the toilet while the bathroom is already open for your tub-to-shower or tub job.
- A premium high-efficiency toilet. The new toilet uses 1.1 gallons per flush or less, and is a model on the SoCal Water$mart qualifying list so it can count for the rebate.
- You apply for the rebate. The rebate goes to the water customer on the bill. We give you a paid receipt with the brand, model, price and date so you can apply.

What you can get
| Where you live | Toilet rebate | Source |
|---|---|---|
| City of Los Angeles (LADWP customers) | Up to $250 per toilet, per household | LADWP |
| Most of LA, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties (Metropolitan Water District areas) | Up to $40 per toilet to start; your local water agency may add more | SoCal Water$mart |
| San Clemente | Up to $150 per toilet ($40 base + $110 city) | City of San Clemente |
Rebate amounts and rules change, and the water agency decides who qualifies and how much is paid. Use the official SoCal Water$mart Estimate Your Rebate tool for your address before you buy.
Who qualifies
- The new toilet must replace one that uses 1.6 gallons per flush or more (SoCal Water$mart).
- Only models on the SoCal Water$mart Qualifying Products List count, and they must be bought new (toilet FAQ).
- Apply within 1 year of buying the toilet. After you apply online, send the paperwork within 60 days (terms).
- Proof needed: a receipt or invoice with the model number, date of purchase and proof of full payment, plus a recent water bill (terms).
- One time per address: if you already got a rebate for the same device, you can't get another. Replacing more than one toilet? Put them all on one application (toilet FAQ).
- The rebate can't be more than what the toilet cost, not counting tax, shipping or labor (terms).
- First come, first served, while funds last (terms).
